Registered as a practicing general dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA)
I am a qualified trauma-informed counsellor, with a Diploma and Masters of Counselling, and am registered with the Australian Counselling Association (Level 2 Accredited), and listed on the Australian Registry of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
I inaugurated A Safe Space With Ramya in 2020, when I witnessed so many people struggling with their mental health during the COVID lockdowns. After completing my post-graduate qualifications in counselling, I then converted A Safe Space With Ramya into a private practice and currently offer tele-health counselling supporting adults and couples across Australia, experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions such as anxiety, PTSD and depression.
I am also dual qualified and hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). As a practicing AHPRA registered dentist with over a decade of experience in private and public healthcare in Australia, I understand the pressures of the healthcare system and the emotional impact that health conditions, stress, chronic pain, work-life balance, and caregiving can have on a person's well-being and mental health. I am especially passionate about changing the stigma towards mental health amongst healthcare professionals, such as dentists, and addressing factors such as compassion fatigue, burnout, injuries, workplace bullying and finding a sense of purpose.
Additionally, I bring lived experience and a deep understanding of grief, loss, and trauma, including how traumatic experiences can affect a person internally, externally, emotionally, physically, and relationally. I also understand how childhood trauma and complex family systems can impact one's self-worth, identity and attachment styles, impacting adult romantic, familial and platonic relationships.
Born and raised in Australia within a South Asian background, I also understand the cultural experiences, stereotypes, expectations, and stigma surrounding mental health within South Asian and other ethnic communities. I am passionate about creating culturally safe and supportive spaces that encourage openness, healing, and self-understanding.
Outside of my counselling private practice and dentistry, I also volunteer with the Raise Foundation, as a digital mentor for high school students, supporting their mental health and well-being.
"My purpose in life is to spread compassion to as many people as possible, and support clients through my authenticity and understanding, so they feel seen and heard."
